Artist's Statement

Louise Hatton is a sculpture and installation artist, much of her inspiration comes from nature and the body. Other main concerns are with identity and ideas around the individual as well as the group or collective. She works with both natural and man made materials such as:- plaster, string, starch, fabric, wax, aluminium, fishing line and wire. Many of her pieces show contrasts in materials, the ideas of the man made versus the natural. Recycled materials have also become a major concern in her work, preferring materials that are recycled or reuse able in some way. Materials, form and scale are evident as being intrinsic to the pieces, often seen as environments due to their inhabitation of the spaces.
